SPRING 2015 / preview
"SPRING 2015 / preview" is a short set of six frames from the shoot for our first spring capsule, made in 2015, the year when we founded MAGNETIC in Odesa. The set SPRING 2015 / backstage shooting shows how the pictures were made.
These frames from spring 2015 show the blue tuxedo. For the designer this piece was the most inspiring, the starting point and the signature model: the story of the brand’s tuxedos began with the blue one.
The first collection had three main pieces: the blue, the black and the red tuxedo. They won over the girls who saw the first collection and became an undisputed bestseller: everyone wanted these suits. We are especially glad that both men and women noticed them. In their time these suits turned out to be remarkably successful.
They were made by another photographer, invited for this shoot, who chose the second look to his own taste.
These frames are from the shoot of our very first lookbook. They are not a behind-the-scenes set, but they were made on the same day as the one in SPRING 2015 / backstage shooting, and the two sets go together.
The mood
The frames are quiet and dark, with soft color and a little grain, like film. The model sits on a black leather sofa by a tall window, and the daylight falls on her face from the side while the room behind her stays in shadow. In one frame a photographer's hands and lens are visible at the edge, a reminder that this is a studio and not a street. The light is the main character: it brings out a profile, a collar, the line of a shoulder.
The looks
Two looks carry the preview. The first is a short black sleeveless dress with a white pointed collar, worn with a wide-brimmed black hat and the model's long wavy hair; the contrast of the black and the white collar is the whole decoration. The second is a cobalt blue suit with a black bralette under the open jacket and large gold earrings, and it is the idea that we later developed in our suit campaigns, for instance It's all about #MAGNETIC_girls.
What the capsule was about
In 2015 we designed in capsules: small collections made quickly, around a clear idea. For the spring one the idea was simple. A black dress with a clean collar and a bright suit are two ways of one character: a city woman who knows what she likes.
In the catalog today
The black dress with a white collar of that spring has a descendant in the dresses we make today, and the blue suit in the trouser suits. For a jacket in a similar cut, look at the oversize blazer.
